Suzhou Xiangcheng District Planning Exhibition Hall Architectural Design

Suzhou is a cultural ancient city with a history of more than 2,500 years. It not only created rich material wealth for the Chinese nation, but also wrote a glorious chapter for the outstanding traditional culture of the Chinese nation. Suzhou has the reputation of “the charm of the southeast crown”, and the elegant and dignified temperament has become the characteristic of its architecture.

The exhibition hall is located on the east side of Suzhou North Railway Station. It is located in the open space base, south to Nantiancheng Road, east to Chengyang Road and north to Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway. The land area is 1.17 hectares and the construction area is 6030㎡.

The annual flow of passengers through Suzhou North Railway Station reaches hundreds of millions of meters, and the high-speed railway decelerates before entering the station, just to see the exhibition hall! The superiority of the location determines its uniqueness: the various aspects of the building are very important. We conducted two kinds of ideas research; one is garden-style, with some enclosures and elements to define the space, to achieve spatial order changes; obviously similar to the garden-style approach is difficult to achieve the meaning of the building. We have chosen another way of thinking, to make a point, not to spread, to make it a city landmark, visual focus!

The simple and powerful shape is the starting point of architectural design. We hope that this simple and pure square building can reveal the profound meaning of “confidence” for the owners, the government and all those who struggle for the high-speed rail new city project. The outer curtain wall is composed of vertical members. The effect of agility, the meaning is "the curtain is opened."

The height of the building is particularly important, and we set the height of the building to be in line with the line of sight of the high-speed rail. Highly determined, proportionally refined, combined with the column span and the factors of all parties, the length and width are set at 46 meters. The outer skin texture is made of aluminum square rods, and the standard fragments of the outer skin size and spacing are strictly corresponding to the building column net. Each rod is divided into five equal parts, and the inner side is treated with dark lines, and the end of the rod is rolled up to make the building more soft and beautiful.

In the construction of the project landscape, we emphasize the application of the waterscape. In order to ensure the integrity of the reflection, the road leading to the main entrance of the building is set on the side, and the elegant curved coat of the building is printed in the water, which is so charming and the image of the outer skin is conceived. From a musical instrument called Marimba, the building is solidified music, and we hope that this small building can play a beautiful movement against the backdrop of the water.
