Landscape Design of "Core Motion Paradise" in Huangshi National Mine Park, Hubei Province

Release time:2018-12-09 03:42:33 Author:admin

Huangshi National Mine Park was founded by Zhang Zhidong, a loyal minister of the late Qing Dynasty, Hanyeping Coal and Iron Works Co., Ltd. since 1875, it has been exploring iron ore, and has accumulated a considerable number of geological exploration cores. The case converts the core of past mineral exploration into novel landscape elements such as paving, plaza, sketches and installation works by means of combination, slicing and reorganization. To find a new way for the regeneration and utilization of landscape resources, so that cores which have been sleeping for more than a century can be explored and sampled, and their identity can be changed to present to the world in the form of regenerated landscape. The "core" of the survey is used as the landscape material to create a new landscape for sustainable recycling.

The case is creatively based on the core from deep strata for exploration of iron ore deposits with geoscientific significance. The aesthetic value gained from the excavation of this special rock material and its design. High aesthetic value of geological relics material-core as the main body, and the integration of other characteristics of the sketches constitute a unique visual experience, which not only provides people with scientific value of mineral exploration historical data, distinctive features of deep mineral core information, has become the paving, sketches and extensive Huangshi National Mine Park. Landscape materials of the site.

"Core Motion Paradise" is located in the core area of Huangshi National Mine Park, adjacent to "the first day pit in Asia". "Core Motion Paradise" is organically distributed over four mining sites with different elevations. After more than 140 years of exploration and excavation, Daye Iron Mine has accumulated two core sample workshops with an area of 26,000㎡. Cores with diameters of 20 and 60 are considerable. Core is the precondition and scientific support for the whole mine, and also the witness and founder of the mine. The underground core is transformed into the ground landscape, which realizes the regeneration and utilization of landscape resources.

Combining cores of different lengths, different colors represent different strata, and the red numbers on the core pillars form unique visual symbols. The core numbering is divided into six parts: exploration area name, borehole numbering, core, strata level, sequence numbering in the strata where the core is located and sequence numbering of the whole core.

"Core Motion Paradise" project pioneered the example of core reuse. Cores drilled out during prospecting are reused as landscape sketches and hard landscape paving materials. History, humanities and nature are intermingled with each other, which endows them with novel shapes and educational significance of popular science. At the same time, it also embodies the implementation and utilization of the concept of green sustainable development. Traveling through the sculpture gives visitors a different experience of "feasible, promising and travelable". Landscape sculpture of harp weaving, which is made of core and waste steel pipe, combines science and technology with art, uses laser beam to add interactivity, and finally is realized by steel cable.

Considering the diversity of functions and landscapes, the park needs to be given overall coherence in order to keep in touch with the rich cultural history of the site. Following the melody of harp, bell and other "musical instruments", the copper musical symbols set in the nodal landscape are embedded in the core wall, composing "Song of Geological Exploration Team", telling the diligence of mine prospectors, and interpreting mine prospectors'feelings for mines. These life-breathing landscapes are the result of good utilization of local resources. Robinia pseudoacacia with strong adaptability is selected in plant selection, which can adapt to mine land and windy environment.

The cross-section of the core is embedded in the site. The flat cross-section pavement and the cylindrical pavement form a visual and tactile contrast to protect and inherit the industrial relics. The core material of the floor pavement is mainly limestone, which is strong and absorbs water, and carries out the design concept of sustainable development. Various style design makes pavement design unique scenery.

A large part of the building materials in Huangshi Mine Park are made of renewable materials, including the construction of landscape sketches, pavement of roads, decoration of walls and so on. The newly added materials and devices are very concise and durable. The materials representing the characteristics of the mine, such as the core, reflect rich cultural history. In line with the natural environment of the mine, and through various ways to achieve it in the project, reflecting the overall design ideas of coexistence, coexistence and co-prosperity with nature and society. By reusing the materials accumulated over a century, the core of exploration seems to be a "chip" to prove the hard history of iron ore mining, which is carefully edited by the designer and presented on the mining relics with a brand-new style. Relying on the existing landscape pattern of mining area, grasping the important node relationship, interpreting the reuse of landscape resources with simple, modern and heavy design techniques, and implementing it into sustainable landscape design.
